As an international centre for innovation, Communitech receives approximately 15,000 visitors per annum.
The organization is attempting to engineer the future and not leave it to fate.
As the “humble butler”, the organization was founded as a community of tech with 43 members and now has over 1,100 members representing private sector companies.
Funding is based on a model of 50% Public and 50% Private funding respectively.
A mission driven organization, the ambition of Communitech is to help tech companies succeed.
Primarily focused on three the three main pillars of Place, Eco System and Programs. They provide companies a place, the econ system to grow, and programs to help the industry.
One such successful program is to help shatter the glass ceiling facing female tech entrepreneurs. While once making up only 9% of start-ups, Women now make up 27% of new companies at Communitech in just 18 mos of the program.
Communitech is also working to assist new and existing companies with sales training and programs, an area where many tech companies require help in growing to the next level.
Additionally, some efforts are made in an attempt to bring foreign nationals back to Canada where good paying jobs exist while also helping to maintain successful start-ups here at home.
A tour of the facility followed, whereby members were able to see the great work ongoing that is helping our region become known as the tech centre of Canada.
