President Troy and Past President John Thompson thank guest speaker Tana Nash, Executive Director of the Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council.
Tana provided a brief overview of a very informative and educational “safeTALK” workshop that has an objective of informing and providing tools for individuals to be better prepared to recognize and respond to individuals who might be considering suicide. (In Waterloo Region, 57 suicides occur annually, with hundreds, yes hundreds of attempted suicides and those who contemplate suicide).
Rotary Kitchener-Westmount has provided a modest grant for a collaboration with Kitchener Sports Association, Campbell Fence & Deck and the KW Titans Professional Basketball Club. The collaboration will result in two, and possibly three “safeTALK” workshops being provided to the community.
