Guest Speaker
Faune Lang- Food4Kids Waterloo Region
Owen Lackenbauer introduced our guest speaker.
Food4Kids Waterloo Region is a local non profit organization.
They provide an essential service for local children experiencing chronic hunger. They deliver nutritious food packages directly to at-risk vulnerable children when they are not in school and need help the most.
They serve 1300 children ages 1 through 14 in the region. It is estimated 4,000 children in the Region deal with hunger. School nutrition programs help but these programs only exist during the weeks children are attending school.
Four team members run the organization with hundreds of volunteers providing their time and money to operate the program. 80% of all funds raised goes to donations for food.
People can donate food to the organization. The Food4Kids website has a list of what can be donated. They require high protein, kid friendly items.
How do they identify kids who they can help? Teachers at schools are able to identify those in need, as well as other community partners.
The top 4 schools in the region where food assistance is needed most include Wilson, Westmount, J K Carmichael and Forest Hill.
