Speaker:
Mike Collins is our host and talked about the new facilities.
It is very expensive to move broadcast facilities at $5M to $7M just for the move (not including the building.)
The move required a very big team but the new facility is state-of-the-art 100% digital.
They have also moved to a share space model for the space so no one has an office. This is partly because people believe the old model is separated spaces is neither collaborative nor productive.
In the share space all the desks are the same. Every employee has a powerful new laptop outfitted with phone software for communications. Anyone can work anywhere – and they do. There are meeting rooms that can be booked electronically.
This is a different work world but many if not most larger new companies are moving to share space and the entire Rogers company is going that way.
They feel it is great but a big learning curve for everyone – well not as much for new hires.
They are enjoying the new location and staff are saving money on parking over their previous location. People are also finding they are not as tired at the end of the work day and there is just more energy for everyone. The only complaint from the employees is that they are spending too much at all the Boardwalk shops over lunchtime.
Troy wrapped up with meeting with a reminder that there is no meeting next Wednesday the 5th but we will be back at the usual place on the 12th.
