SPEAKER PRESENTATION – KYLE LAMBERT (STAFF SERGEANT, WRPS)

  • Rotarian Kyle Lambert detailed his investigation into the Jewellery thefts that occurred in 2010 in which he led the team to ultimately find and arrest the perpetrators.  He indicated that it took two years and that the investigation took many twists and turns to its fruition.

  • The Fairview Park Mall theft from the People’s Jewellery store was orchestrated by three individuals wearing masks and one pointing a handgun at the staff.  They smashed the glass cases and took off through an exit into a neighboring residential compound.  There were no gunshots fired.

  • There were many eye-witnesses in the Mall, and one valuable witness who saw the three robbers jump a fence near her home and take off in a car.  They also received a call from a “confidential informant” naming Nima Malek as a suspect.  This started the investigation which led to other robberies, and ultimately charging six individuals with 70 charges of theft of approximately $1 Million worth of jewels and gold.  These thefts included other jewellery stores in Toronto, Peel, Guelph and St. Catharines. The stolen items were never recovered, and probably sold through walk in shops.

  • DNA collection and matching were key in identifying the robbers.  All were given penitentiary sentences, and are probably all out now living in communities across Ontario.

  • Kyle was given a citation as lead In this investigation. Congratulations, Kyle.  We are proud of you as a fellow Rotarian.

It was with regret that we heard of the passing of our friend Gord.

Gord joined the Rotary Club in Regina, Sask. in 1972.  He transferred to the Rotary Club of Waterloo in 1977 and was a founding charter member of the Rotary Club of Kitchener Westmount from March 4, 1981.  Gord was President of our club in 1990-91 and continued his association with the K-W Club, most recently as an Honourary member until the time of his death.
