Club President Ed Simon read the Motion by Troy Stuebing President of the Charitable Foundation:

“The Kitchener–Westmount Rotary Club Charitable Foundation make a $100,000 grant to Hospice of Waterloo Region in support of their Waterloo Building Project to be paid over a maximum of four (4) years.”

Motion was seconded by Ray Danbrook.

President Ed Simon explain that this motion was voted and approved by the Grants (Donations) committee.  It was then taken to Charitable Foundation Board and passed unanimously.
The motion was also taken to a vote at the Rotary Club Board meeting and also passed unanimously.

Discussion:

Rick Bolzon Question: It has been the Foundations tradition that we only give money after it has been raised the previous year.  How are we planning to fund this grant?

Ed Simon Response:  The Foundation has net assets of $116,000, a set amount of approx. $90,000 raised in the previous year was set aside for grants this year, a portion will come from those funds along with a portion from the surplus funds.  It is hoped that the largest part of the Grant would be made in the 1st year.  Other fundraisers such as Bingo have added to proceeds raised.

Bill Green I will be voting in favour of this motion but I would like to see if the grant could also be tied to some type of service project that the Club could partake in with Hospice.

Judy Nairn Will explore service areas that we could be involved with.  For the grant there is a naming opportunity for a room at Hospice as well.
