The Club returned to the Concordia Club this week for its weekly meeting. About 19 member were in attendance as well as Simon Adler’s friend Ian and Mrs. Louise Puopolo who attended as guests.
Important Announcements
- Allison Scott talked to everyone about the upcoming Oktoberfest Luncheon. We are happy to have this event again but… sponsorship is down so we have to sell out if we want to break even. Members are strongly encouraged to sell tickets and seek out sponsors. Details will follow.
- Troy Stuebing let us know that the Crown and Anchor sign up sheet will be available at the meeting next week. All members are expected to work 2 shifts at the booth. To get the time you want, be sure to sign up early.
- John Thompson informed everyone of a KSA event coming up in Sept
Speaker Summary
Our Speaker Taveena Kum was unexpectedly stranded in New York City after her flight was delayed.
- President Everton came to the rescue with a very interesting presentation on the latest in Cyber Attacks
- He informed us that Phishing Schemes are now a Billion dollar industry and explained about the numerous new ways that hackers are acting as imposters to get you to click on dangerous links.
- Most importantly:
- Always check the email address of the sender of an email. If it seems strange, delete it
- Hover over any links with your cursor to see the actual web address you will be taken to. If it looks wrong. Delete
- Look for spelling errors in emails sent from official companies. This is a tell tale sign something is wrong
- Watch for websites with just a slight modification. For example an “s” added to the website. Like www.klynefinancials.com
A big thanks to President Everton for this very informative presentation.
Next week, we will return to Concordia Club for our weekly meeting. Speaker to be announced.
