Jim Kibble’s Mother-in-law, Eleanor Taylor passed away.
Guess the Member was Anna Melick.
50-50 draw was for $65. All three tickets for the draw were owned by Chuck Thompson and the black marble remained undiscovered. Apparently Chuck was really NOT supposed to win – but neither was anyone else.
Melissa Melnychuk shared a short video regarding the Titans and their role in our community and three ways to give back.
- Give back to the community by supporting charities. They have given support to 14 local charities thus far in their year.
- Community Engagement – the Titans visit schools and share with the students how to deal with many of life’s challenges.
- Game Themes. like having games in support of People with Disabilities or in support of Women’s programs.
They see the Titans offering the community high quality entertainment with a low cost and the ability to “skip the 401”
The Titan’s fundraising program offers groups tickets at a reduced rate for resale. This means up to $14.50 per ticket sold going to the charity selling them.
Melissa was here today asking for our support at this point midway through season 4. They need bums in seats and cheerleaders or champions to help promote the Titans to their friends and associates.
They offer flex packs of 10 or 20 tickets that employers can buy at a cost of just $20 per ticket to give to their employees.
The final game of the season on April 16th will be a tribute game in memory of our very own Leo Tobi. Please come out to celebrate Leo’s involvement with, and passion for, the Titans.
Who am I
Anna Melick
Anna was born in Poland and emigrated to Canada in 1982 at the age of 5. Her father was a part of the anti-communist movement at that time and had problems with the polish authorities and had to leave Poland and they chose Kitchener to resettle. They stayed in a hotel ( of somewhat ill repute) for the first month. Her parents attended Conestoga college to learn English.
Her mom became a factory worker and her father was a millwright and they sponsored many other families of relatives to come to Canada and they have all successfully created better lives for themselves in Canada.
Anna went to St. Mary’s High School and attended - but did not complete – a course of studies in Social Development at University of Waterloo. She eventually settled on working in the field of mortgages and has spent 8 years working on renewals and refinancing of residential and commercial mortgages.
She has a husband Mark, who is a former member of our club and introduced her to Rotary, and two teenaged boys Marcus and Mattaeus. The latter child had some developmental challenges and spent some time at Kids ability – another reason Anna decided to join Rotary.
They all love spending time at their cottage in Bayfield and travelling with a trip planned every two months. She loves learning about other cultures. Anna says she learns something new at every Rotary meeting.
Kyle Lambert
Kyle was born on Dec 22, 1977 at the Grand River Hospital. A real local buy his dad was from Dorking and his mom from Glen Allen. His father was a chartered accountant with Laurier for 40 years and his mother was primarily a stay-at-home mom. He also has an older brother.
Kyle went to Elmira High School where he spend a lot of time in various sports – soccer, hockey and golf to name a few. While his dad and brother were more scholastic and focused more on studies.
Kyle eventually found himself taking criminology at the University of Windsor and while he did participate on the soccer and golf teams, he was able to reach his academic goals and finish university. While his LSAT test grades were good he just wasn’t that interested in law school. The school resource officer encouraged Kyle to apply himself to police work and in 2001, he was hired by the Waterloo Region Police Service. He went from HR to division detectives and for three years worked on major crimes with 2.5 years dedicated to a series of jewelry store robberies. He spent a lot of time covertly collecting DNA samples from possible suspects and linked them together with several robberies that totalled $700 – $800,000 in value. He was promoted to sergeant and later to detective sergeant and now works in Training and Education.
He met his wife, Wanda Michelle, in 2004 and was married in 2008. Their son is now 9. He spends free time coaching hockey and playing hockey and golf. Sadly his father passed in 2015 from a heart attack while shovelling snow. This was very difficult as his dad was his inspiration and closest friend.
Kyle learned about Rotary from his time in the Leadership Waterloo Region program and then Rotarian Todd Aitchison moved next door and the rest is history.
