Our guest speaker was Nina Gupta a lawyer with Gowlings LLP in Kitchener who specializes in employment law. Her presentation – “Mental Health – Legal, Personal, Business and Systematic Ruminations”.
Her personal experience with mental health started with her mother who suffered from depression which as a child she did not acknowledge. In employment settings mental health is not always obvious and typically employers only engage employees when there is a performance issue or conflict. Employers need to recognise and encourage employees to seek professional help. There are numerous resources available through employee benefit plans.
