Guest Speaker:
Michael Hintermiester, speaking on I-MAX and 3-D camera technology, was introduced by President Elect Jerome Freiburger.
An intriguing, eccentric and highly entertaining presenter, Michael shared stories and pictures of his many adventures as a 3-D and Imax Camera technician who has travelled the world filming everything imaginable including mountain top weddings, NASCAR races, Elephants and Orangutans in Borneo to the underwater exploration of The Bismark, “all in a day’s work”.
An Elora native, Michael is a Tool & Die Maker by trade. He shared insights of the early days of IMAX film development. Originally founded by a group of 4 people from the Cambridge area with ties to Christie Digital & Dalsa in the 1970’s, IMAX technology required 1,000 feet of film to deliver only 3 minutes of movie time at 24 frames per second. Now, like so much of our world, most IMAX is done digitally.
Michael gave us insights into 3-d film technology which started with photo technology more than 100 years ago. The “parallax view”; right eye/left eye imaging that allows the brain to meld two slightly different perspective into a 3-D images.
Michael’s passion for his work with Orangutans in Borneo was particularly evident as he shared stores and pictures of their playful human intelligence helping fix small engines to mischievously making rain.
Thank you Michael for a VERY entertaining and educational presentation.
