Guest Speaker
Chris Wilk introduced our speaker June MacDonald from the Waterloo Potters Workshop. The workshop is located in Waterloo Park and they celebrated their 50th year in 2018. The potters are a co-op with 130 members.
June shared her journey in coming here as well as the history of the workshop. Bel is also a member of the group. The Potters Workshop runs entirely with volunteers.
June shared some great pictures of the work of the Potters Workshop as well as discussed the process of making pottery.
The group supports the Empty Bowls fundraiser for the Food Bank every year by making 700 bowls. The event takes place this year on May 23rd at the Knox Presbyterian Church. June encouraged everyone to come out to the event.
The Potters Workshop sale is coming up at the end of April with lots of great pottery items for sale. Kids are welcome to come out to the event as well and try to make some pottery.
Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.
