Youth Program

– Teens and Youth are facing more and more challenges and expressing higher levels of stress and lower positivity of future prospects.

Rotary International “Every Rotarian has an example to youth”.  Clubs are encouraged to support youth.

Target youth between 13 – 16, new Canadians, indiginious communities among others

Program is a Youth Reality Check. Providing an opportunity to empower Youth to take charge of their lives by addressing their situation and preparing a plan of action.

Goal is to provide learning opportunities, educate and empower youth to develop leadership and life skills.

Program – 1 day event, held annually through partnerships to local businesses to provide a one day event to help Youth understand how to plan and prepare for life in terms of career, salary and the expenses of life.  Program would randomly assign a career, salary and life expenses (ie. mortgage, caring for others, etc) and then provide them with a cheque book to figure out how to budget and account for real life situations.

Idea is to teach life skills.

Operating this program would be customized from the Yukon School District, Oklahoma example.  This program has a 20 year history.  We are not starting from scratch.  For the Club this program could build community connections, increase brand awareness, build corporate connections.  Program is low cost and does not require significant investments of capital or time of members.

Next Steps:

Recruit club members
Build corporate connections
Planned start date of June 2022

Everton to circulate additional materials to help review this opportunity further.

Other Club Business:

Discussion of opportunities for fundraising.  Club has limited opportunities for fundraising at this time. Judy to put out a further call for input / members to support joining a committee – to discuss fundraising opportunites.

Meeting adjourned – 1:07 pm.
