Guest Speaker-Matteo Zammit
Matteo spoke of his challenging childhood, dealing with many hardships, with no support, went through the foster care system.
From the ages of 19-23, he lived out of his 1979 Raleigh Grand Prix, tent/hammock.
He cycled from Toronto to Miami, then flew to Haiti to volunteer. (and another trip to Miami)
He lived off less than $1,000 a year, dumpster dived, fished, foraged, hunting with a slingshot.
Met numerous people along his travels, many entertaining stories of his experiences such as biking through the Everglades, climbing coconut trees, most people he met treated him well, occasionally not great.
After years of travel, started a worker owned coop to repair bikes. Also consults with people offering bike touring preparation.
His goal is to create a mentorship program for youth, to help them get useful experiences.
