Scholarship Program
The sponsorship of a scholarship award to a Gander student has been a long standing tradition of Rotary Club of Gander; one that can be traced back to the early years of the Club's history. Initially, it was an monetary award in recognition high academic performance by a high school graduate who was pursuing a secondary program of studies.In recent years, the Clubmoved in adifferent direction, using designated scholarship funds to establish registered educational saving plans (RESPs). This progam was targeted towards grade 6 students at Gander Academy, the local elementary school.
In 2010-11, the Club reassessedthe criteria used in awarding thescholarship provided through this program.The following modificationshave been approved foradministrating the Club's Scholarship Program, effective for the 2010-11 School Year.

The Rotary Club of Gander annually presents two scholarships in the form of RESPs, each valued at $500. This scholarship is open to all elementary grade students of Gander Academy. Consideration will be given to three criteria when examining the involvements of candidates, in order to determine the successful recipients of these awards:

Involvement and/or participation in various school/community organizations and activities

Follows the Principles of the Rotary's Four Way Test
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to All Concerned?
- Will it Build GOODWILL and Better Friendships?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to All Concerned?

Meets Gander Academy's High Five guidelines
- Be Honest
- Be Safe and Healthy
- Be Responsible
- Be Respectful
- Be Kind
All teachers of Gander Academy may nominate a deserving student for this award. Selection will be conducted by a committee consisting of one teacher from each Elementary grade, one specialist teacher, school administration, guidance counselor and a Rotarian from the Gander Club. A student can only win this scholarship once while they attend Gander Academy.
Parents of the recipients will be provided with a list of local financial institutions. Checks will be issued directly to the designated financial institutions by the Rotary Club of Gander.
