About Our Club

The Rotary Club of Gander was chartered in Nov 1977. Our sponsoring club was the Rotary Club of Grand Falls. The formal Charter Night Meeting was held on December 3, 1977. However, Rotary International records show that the chartered members of the Gander Rotary were officially registered with Rotary International on November 3, 1977; hence, the Club's Official Anniversary date is November 3.

Each Rotary club is a member of Rotary International (RI), an organization of community, business and professional leaders united worldwide to provide humanitarian service and help build goodwill and peace in the world. It is comprised of more than 1.2 million members working in over 34,000 clubs in 200 countries and geographical regions. RI, the world's first and one of the largest non-profit service organization, was founded February 23, 1905 in Chicago, Illinois, USA, under the leadership Paul Harris.

Each Rotary club's membership represents a cross-section of those who work and/or live in the local community or area served by the club. It is a non-political, non-religious group open to all cultures, races, and creeds.

Each year, clubs contribute, both in the form of financial contributions and time, to community, national and international service projects. Since 1985, Rotarians have contributed in excess of one billion dollars and countless volunteer hours to global Polio eradication initiatives, and through its partnership with the World Health Organization and UNICEF have worked tirelessly to immunize the children of the world against polio. Although polio cases have dropped by 99% since 1988, the disease remains epidemic in 4 countries - Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Pakistan, while other countries are at risk of importing cases. There's still much work to be done.

In Gander, the local Rotary Club is a regular contributor to a number of community groups, including the Health Foundation, Food Banks & the Kid's Eat Smart Breakfast Program to name a few. We not only provide financial contributions, but we also give of our time through volunteer activities.

The Club's signature project is the continued development of the Cobb's Pond Rotary Park. Our largest initiative to date involved partnering with the Town of Gander on a comprehensive redevelopment project, to bring this valued outdoor community facility into the future. The Club committed to raise $200,000.00 as our part in this exciting project. We surpassed this goal with the help of our community supporters.

In 2017 we reached our Club's 40th Anniversary. A significant milestone that shows the Rotary Club of Gander continues to be a strong and vibrant club of service to the community.  We continue to seek and implement initiatives in the spirit of the Rotary motto "Service Above Self"

The Rotary Club of Gander continually works towards the Rotary ideals of service. Take the opportunity to browse the Club website, and get a more detailed view of the work of Rotary and the initiatives undertaken by the local Rotary Club.
