What a wonderful guest speaker we had in evolutionary geneticist Professor Jenny Graves last Thursday. Her subject was fascinating, thought provoking and complemented by a polished powerpoint presentation. I think I understood about 10% of the detail but it left me in awe of the detailed research and conclusions reached by Jenny and her teams. Thanks to Jenny, who is a local resident, for agreeing so readily to share her knowledge and research with us and thanks to John O’Callaghan for organising Jenny as guest speaker.
You will have all received a copy of the on-line survey which has been designed to allow you to provide feedback to the 2017/18 and 2018/19 Boards on your thoughts and ideas on the direction of the Club. What things have we done well or perhaps could do differently? Please give us your thoughts via the Survey Monkey by 7 March to allow the results to be considered by the Boards at their combined meeting on 14 March and then fed back to members at Club Assembly on 5 April. Ann has paper copies of the survey if you are not able to use the on-line version.
Thanks to the small group of people who have volunteered to assist at the Jazz Festival this weekend. The Jazz Festival is a major Eltham event and I believe that it is important for us to be involved and support the activities of other community groups. Besides it’s lots of fun.
Thanks to this week's BBQ team which raised $881 in a few hectic hours. Particular thanks to Alan McCleary who volunteered at short notice to take over the team leader role. Thanks also to Kevin Darling-Filby, Irene Cant and Nick Iconomou for their BBQing skills. See you all on Thursday for our CPR refresher training.
President Judy

This Week at Rotary
After an amazing night last Thursday with the presentation from Professor Jenny Graves we have a different type of meeting organised for members this week. Our guest speaker, Frank Perri from Victoria First Aid Education Services, will be instructing members on the correct CPR techniques and the use of the Defibrillator machines that we have in the club.  There will be hands on practice using training mannequins available. This training is paid for by the club and it is recommended that all members come along as you never know when these skills may have to be used.  Hopefully NEVER!!  As we will need a bit of space for the demonstration and practice we will be holding the meeting in the Eaglemont Room.
Chairperson:  Ann Lynch
Fine Master: Ian Toohill
