New Generations lead the show!
Youth Exchange: What an amazing impression we had from Grace at our meeting on Tuesday night. Grace is off to Japan for 3 months in November to stay near Kumamoto on the island of Kyushu. She is travelling as part of Rotary's short term exchange program. Grace already has a strong interest in Japan and, I can attest, speaks Japanese with a very beautiful diction. In Japanese: "日本語がきれい" - "Nihongo ga kirei". We hope to see Grace a few times more before she leaves, and will enjoy hearing about her travels while she is away!
RYPEN: Thank you Sally for your efforts pulling together RYPEN with the team. This is another great way we can give opportunities to our next generations to learn to become future leaders. Watch out for the flyer asking for the next RYPEN registrations coming soon.
RYLA Nominations
It’s time to start getting your RYLA nominations in!
The Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) program is a fantastic opportunity for young adults to get ahead in the modern world. More than ever, young people need the skills and confidence to navigate relationships, leadership, decision-making and the many options that lie ahead of them.
RYLA gives young people a leg-up — helping them build confidence, develop leadership skills, discover their strengths and create connections that can open doors for their future.
If you know a young person who would benefit from this experience, now is the time to nominate them.
END POLIO NOW
This week, we transferred $1000 as a down payment on this years contribution to 'End Polio Now'. Each dollar we commit is multiplied by the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation to become $3. That's enough to vaccinate 3 children.
As President Ted at Eltham said last week: "Rotary has helped reduce global polio by 99.9% since 1979. Rotary has contributed over $2.9 US billion to protect more than 3 billion children across 122 countries. Afghanistan and Pakistan remain endemic. If all eradication efforts were stopped today, within 10 years polio could paralyse as many as 200,000 children each year."
This Week's Meeting
