Stronger Communities - 144 scones!
It was all hands on deck for Devonshire Delights, with 144 warm scones cut in half and topped with jam, cream, icing sugar and a finishing touch of flowers. It was quite an effort to prepare all 288 halves, but the many compliments about how delicious and beautifully presented they were made it worthwhile.
The raffle added some extra fun to the morning, and there was certainly plenty of work behind the scenes too — including the mammoth task of washing and drying all the dishes by hand when the dishwasher couldn’t be used!
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the morning such a success. It was a fantastic couple of hours enjoyed by everyone, and we look forward to doing it again for our community next year. Thank you Linda Stewart for this summary!
El Salvadore - Snake bite prevention
The update from Mark Pelley at our meeting on Tuesday about the situation in El Salvadore was inspiring. The bridges that he is building between between Diamond Creek & El Savadore's Rotary, universities and government departments is inspiring and lays a solid framework for the Snakebite Prevention Project. His project to help reduce the incidence of snake bite globally is starting to take some form, and will include him being a keynote speaker at the Rotary District Conference in Corowa in March. Yay!
RYLA Nominations
The Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) program is a fantastic opportunity for young adults to get ahead. RYLA gives young people a leg-up — helping them build confidence, develop leadership skills, discover their strengths and create connections that can open doors for their future.
If you know a young person who would benefit from this experience, now is the time to nominate them.
This Week's Meeting
This week we will gain some further insight into the working of Nillumbik councils community programs when longstanding former Nillumbik employees Anna Maio and Nichole Johnston come and present to our meeting. The relationship between council and Rotary is essential in having stronger communities so hearing anther prespective on this will be interesting.
All visitors are welcome!
