Board Update: Funds Released to Local and International Projects

This week, the Diamond Creek Rotary board met to review our progress on this year’s goals and make sure our governance objectives are firmly in place.

Earlier in the Rotary year, the board adopted a budget for the club’s charitable contributions, spread across youth, community projects, international causes and, of course, The Rotary Foundation. This week, we were delighted to put that budget into action by releasing funds to three worthy projects:

  • ShelterBox - 3 Sponsored - provides emergency survival kits to families affected by disasters around the world
  • CAVE - $1000 contribution - supports disadvantaged students right here in our own community.
  • RYLA - (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) - 3 young people sponsored - gives young people a chance to grow as leaders, and we’re proud to sponsor three attendees this year.

None of this would be possible without you. Every dollar we give comes from the hard work of our members, volunteers and the generous support of our sponsors. Thank you to everyone who has rolled up their sleeves at a fundraiser, lent a hand at an event or backed the club along the way.

A big thank you also to our board members for their time, care and leadership in guiding the club’s finances and governance. Their work behind the scenes keeps Diamond Creek Rotary in a strong position to keep giving.

Here’s to the difference we’re making together, locally and around the world.

Diamond Creek Rotary - Home of Shelterbox in our District!

When disaster strikes, ShelterBox helps families rebuild their lives by providing emergency shelter and essential supplies. Proudly, Diamond Creek is the home of the ShelterBox project in District 9790 with the passionate leadership of our own rotarian Steve Crosling! Through Rotary's global partnership, we're helping deliver hope, security and a fresh start to families when they need it most.  Our latest contribution is enough for 3 Shelterboxes.  Read more in the article below.

RYLA Nominations

The Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) program is a fantastic opportunity for young adults to get ahead. RYLA gives young people a leg-up — helping them build confidence, develop leadership skills, discover their strengths and create connections that can open doors for their future.

If you know a young person who would benefit from this experience, now is the time to nominate them.

This Week's Meeting

There is no meeting this week due to the cup day public holiday.

Background Brief - Shelterbox

Diamond Creek is the home of the ShelterBox project in District 9790. Through Rotary’s global partnership, we’re helping deliver hope, security and a fresh start to families when they need it most.

Ever Wondered Where our Sponsors comes from?

Ever wondered where our sponsors come from?  Here's one story from one of our members, Ebony.

"Recently, Cameron Hooper from Nando's paid Ability Works in Kew a visit.

Ability Works is a certified social enterprise where one of our Rotarians, Ebony Watson, works.

Inspired by the work that Ability Works does in allowing people to reach their full potential and seeing firsthand what this has meant to Ebony over the years, Cameron felt compelled to support further in some way.

Ebony suggested that a great way would be to provide some vouchers and products for Diamon Creek Rotary Club to raffle.

Last month saw the domino effect of all this where vouchers and products were offered as door prizes for the Devonshire Delights.

Held during Seniors Week, the get together was very well received by everybody who participated.

Thanks to both Cameron and Ebony for pulling all this together"
