Last week, the Club had a very interesting presentation by  Mark  Bogiatzis, on the Porsche Australia Tasmania event, which Mark has participated in  a number of times. Mark a proud local businessman, outlined in a very open and fun way the way the event is organised and run, and explained his enjoyment of being part of this event which has allowed him to not only enhance his driving skills, but also meet some wonderful people from around Australia and the world.
A dot point of his comments follow on the next page.
  • TARGA Tasmania is a tarmac-based rally event held (strangely enough) on the island of Tasmania, annually since 1992.
  • The event takes its name from the Targa Florio, a former motoring event held on the island of Sicily.
  • TARGA Tasmania gives you access to some of the world’s ultimate driving roads, where the most exciting challenges are waiting to be conquered.
  • TARGA Tasmania is a passport to driving your car through the most beautiful, yet technically challenging sealed roads. It is an opportunity to experience the primal thrill of tackling turn after turn, the exhilaration of
  • driving your pride and joy, as it was designed, on roads that are otherwise never closed.
  • TARGA Tasmania travels over 2000kms in 6 days. Starting in the northern part of the island, the course takes you past beach-lined coasts and World Heritage listed mountains, past welcoming farm-gate producers, cellar doors and restaurants specialising in local produce, before finishing on Hobart’s picturesque waterfront.
  • Competitors from all over the world attend.
  • It is a world class event.
Mark also took the time to explain a local event held up in North Queensland which also covers some magic scenery .
Also, one of our own Club members, Ryan, has also competed in this event for a number of years, and was able to confirm Marks comments.
Thanks for a really interesting presentation.
