Jim Johnston introduced Executive Director Dianne McLeod of the Food Bank.. Dianne is a mom of 4 and grandmother to 3. Dianne became a single mother and needed social assistance to raise her children. Her goal as ExecutiveDdirector is to make the Food Bank as less humiliating experience. She was first educated through Cambridge's Open Door program where she learned excel and word. Later she went to Conestoga College. Most of us are familiar with their emergency hamper program. What we may not be as familiar with is their Fresh Food program with purchases from local farmers and food grown in community gardens. . They also divert 10000 pounds of food from grocery stores that would have gone to land fill. This could go into pickles, pasta sauce. bean salad etc. There is also a section for recipes on a budget. I am not sure I know what this is but a spiralizer can make vegetables fun to eat for children. They also have a self help group for grandparents that are now guardians of children. The Food Bank is in need of a Capital Campaign as they are going to need to move. If you can help please talk to Dianne I asked the question about grocery store bags for the Food Bank. Maybe not nutritious but they are needed. Jeff Hunter was popular in saying that cash was not as heavy as canned goods. Editors note ( 20 bucks gets you a tax credit too.) Mike T was impressed with the nutritious program. Katie Watson thanked Dianne for coming and speaking to us. President Heidi Ho jabbed ten children for polio on behalf of Dianne. |
