Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
President Paul opened the meeting to a big audience today.  32 Members, 1 Visiting Rotarian, and 2 guests.
Chris W gave us the 4-Way Test, and Noah gave the invocation.

50-50
Mark H ran the draw, worth about $800.  One of our guests drew the first ticket.  Noah was the first loser and John J was the second loser.
Health and Good Cheer
George says that Wilf and John look OK but didn't comment on the rest of us.  John still has a sore shoulder.
Good News
Matt had a great holiday in Montreal to see the World Juniors.  The only letdown was Canada not getting the gold.
Dr. Tom likes the weather and jogged for 3.7km.  He wants to race Patrick in the Rotary Run in May.
Mark is going on his first vacation in 18 years, to Cuba, with lots of family.
Jokester Paul
Paul wasn't here.  Dr. Tom was here but chose not to tell a joke after the beating he took last week.

Program
Sandy introduced Tim Hardman of CEO Global Network.Tim covered a lot of ground in telling us how successful CEOs are made.  I can only cover a few points here.
Successful CEO's share some common traits:
  • Ability to inspire
  • Clear vision for company
  • Life long learning
They succeed by:
  • Developing a strong, concise message that they repeat a lot.
  • Developing very brief strategic and business plans (1 or 2 pages) and checking against them often.
  • Developing a talent file (people to hire when you need to fill a position)
  • Keeping "A" players by sharing their time and giving them opportunity
Tim made a number of reading recommendations for anyone who wants to be a successful company owner or CEO.
  • Primal Leadership by Daniel Goleman.
  • CEO Tools by Kraig Kramer
  • Fierce Conversations by Susan Scott
  • Topgrading by Bradford Smart
  • The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni

Noah and Pres. Paul thanked Tim for speaking to us today.

I will post Tim's presentation slides on our website www.rotarycambridge.ca if Sandy emails them to me.
