President Linda introduced Roger "the Rotary" Mann to discuss how the Satellite Club will work. Roger Mann has been a Rotarian for over 30 years. Has done extensive work on Clean Water projects in Africa, India, and Mexico. Instrumental in chartering a club in La Salle, Ontario and has been involved at the District level through international projects, foundation, grants and district conference planning. Roger Mann will be the Chair of the Satellite Club and Paul Cody the Co-Chair.
When Roger came to Cambridge it was like coming home to this club and was welcomed with open arms. Felt like he was coming back into the fold and the family of Rotary kicked in. Roger noticed that there were no evening clubs in this city. We have good attendance at our meetings but sometimes our work commitments conflict with our lunch meeting time. One of the items from a club survey indicated that sometimes it was hard to take 1 to 2 hours in the middle of the day to come out, so there is a need for an alternate meeting time. New members can come to a meeting, get the message, meet fellow Rotarians and be home for dinner. It can also appeal to current members as a make up meeting.
The satellite club meetings will take place every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month in the evening at Galt Country Club from 5:30 - 6:30pm. The 1 hour meeting will have fellowship for 20 minutes, introductions and announcements 10 minutes, speaker 20 minutes and then wrap up (Thank you, questions) 10 minutes. The satellite club is not replacing our P-H club in any way, but rather compliments it. The satellite members will be members of our P-H Club, vetted and approved by our membership, involved in our events, but will meet at a different day/time. New Satellite club members will be inducted at the evening meetings. We need 8 members to be an official Satellite Club.
Paul Cody spoke to us all in regards to how to recruit new members. He encouraged current members to have a mindset of always having that question in mind when you meet people of whether they would be a good Rotarian and invite them out. It needs to be a club mindset. Make sure meetings are an open, friendly and relaxed environment. Invite people out to the many social opportunities the club is involved in including the fundraisers which are always great fun. Educate people about Rotary and the club, tell people what we are about.
Chad Gagne thanked the speakers and everyone who came out. Larry and Neil won the draws.
