President Linda presided over the meeting, Graham read the four way test for the 2nd week in a row.  Soon he will know it.
Noah gave the invocation.

Health and Good Cheer
No news is good news.  It was fabulous to see John Jonas out today, back from the cottage where he just could not let go of Oktoberfest

Graham won about $200.  What??
The pot goes back to zero.
Good News
Jim J spoke for Murray.  Apparently Murray is in great demand in retirement.  He and Ida have just moved from Glenmorris to Paris.
Noah saw the Foo Fighters.
Matt thanked Erica for filling in on the bulletin last week while he was suffering with a bad tooth.  He got a root canal done by a lady in Guelph with tiny hands.  He asked me to do it, but totally by coincidence I was also getting a root canal done by the same endodontist last Thursday at noon.
Mark N has an easy job.  His 12 year old son was running his store while he attended today.  Maybe he'll form a union while dad is away?
Rena's 16 year old daughter is now working at the Home Hardware, for Mark's son.
Mike just recently met his two daughters' boyfriends, who were at the cottage over the long weekend.  They were both either good guys or good actors.
Jokester
Paul, I know you appreciate honesty.  This one didn't work for me.  1.5/10

Program
Rebekah, our director of international service, spoke to us today about her portfolio.  Rotary International encourages clubs to dedicate about 1/3 of fundraising proceeds to projects outside of Canada and our community, and our club does that.  RI promotes six areas of focus...we work in five of those areas (all except Peace and Conflict Resolution).  In 2018/19 we have budgeted to support five international projects:
  1. Alianza (Comitancillo, Guatemala), $3000.  This project is run by Rebekah herself, supporting a small rural community with prenatal care, scholarships, a medical dispensary, and recently eco-stoves which use less fuel and vent smoke outside the homes.  100% of the funds raised go to the cause.  Send a child to school for only $300 per year.  Email Rebekah_Shoop@yahoo.com for that and other sponsorship opportunities.  Rebekah spoke about taking a group with her on one of her visits.  We really should organize something.
  2. Sri Lanka orphanage, $5000.  Pres Linda has personally helped out on this project, travelling to Sri Lanka herself after the tsunami.  Our club is trying for a district matching grant to double our contribution.
  3. Sauti Moja (Education, Social, and Health programs among the Maasai people of Tanzania and Kenya), $1500.  This program is run by Tim and Cory Wright, who have visited our club several times of the years.  Several of our members have also visited Tanzania personally and contributed to specific projects, including Aids Prevention and building of a Montessori pre-school.
  4. Amarok Society (Education of girls and women in Bangladesh), $2500.  Gem and Tanyss Munro of Toronto dedicate their lives to improving the lives of girls and women in this strict Muslim society.
  5. Samaritan Foundation (Building communities in Dominican Republic), $500.  Dennis has been leading and organizing an annual hands-on trip to DR for about 15 years with a group of core supporters and a few Rotarians.  This year, Pres Linda is encouraging more club members to participate.  The trip takes place over the family day week in February, cost is $1500 per person all included and fully tax deductible.  Stay in a 3-star resort in Sosua and work on construction projects nearby 8am to 3pm daily.  After 3pm, have fun at the resort.  I've been on this trip twice...it's well organized, meaningful, and good fun too.  Several members are committed to go already.  Spaces are limited...talk to Dennis.
