Sheri Roberts
Cambridge City Councilor

Sheri Roberts is a dedicated mother, disability advocate, and community leader. A busy mom to a 16-year-old son and a 12-year-old stepson, Sheri also works with Independent Living Waterloo Region and serves as a City Councillor for the City of Cambridge.

Her advocacy journey began after sustaining a complete spinal cord injury at the age of 18. Determined to make a difference, she pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from McMaster University and spent the next several years expanding her knowledge while educating others about disability issues. For over 26 years, Sheri has shared her expertise through presentations on a wide range of topics, including disability awareness, AODA Customer Service Regulation training, adapted sports and fitness, preventing risk-taking behavior in teens, peer pressure avoidance, and the lived experience of a person with a spinal cord injury.

Sheri has a unique gift for connecting with audiences through her down-to-earth, candid storytelling. She openly shares her personal experiences—from the trauma of her injury and the challenges of rehabilitation to overcoming ableism and embracing life beyond her disability. Her honesty and relatability captivate listeners and inspire positive change.

As an open book, Sheri is committed to advocating for disability inclusion and empowerment, while balancing the responsibilities of motherhood, public service, and community involvement.
