Pictured here are the Suitu folk singers from Latvia, Santa Galina, Ausma Kede, Ilga Leimane, Inga Sena-Laizane, Ilga Pavare, Ligita Stasaite, Ance Spronge, and Aleta Lipsne.  In the center is Rotary President Evonne Boettge and on the right is Rotarian Phil Fritsche.  Second from the left is Andy Magurs who helped the women in their travels around Wisconsin.  Suitu culture is unique to Latvia.  Since 2009 Suitu is included in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding.  The group was in Wisconsin to perform their unique a cappella singing style. The group performed for the Beaver Dam Rotary at their luncheon meeting on April 16, 2018.  They sang in their popular Drone and Bourdon styles.  All songs were in their native language.  Nonetheless, the Rotarians joined with them in singing one of their songs.
