August Schedule
We will not meet on August 20, but will instead be having the District Governor visit and joint 3-club meeting on August 22 at the Mayo Civic Center at noon. There is also a social scheduled for that day (see below). We will be back at the Hilton Garden Inn on August 27 with a regular program and a vocational talk from Beth Sherden!

I am enjoying a great Rotary month of August!

Mark Your Calendar - DG Visit on August 22 (next week)
We are looking forward to the District Governor visit next Thursday, August 22, 2019. This will be a great chance for District Governor Paul Perez to learn more about the Rotary Clubs of Rochester and see the work we are doing in the community. It will also be an opportunity for you to meet Paul and hear more about his focus this year. I encourage all of you to participate in the events scheduled for August 22.

Greeter List Updated for the Year

The Greeter list has been assigned for the entire year. You can view it here. Keep in mind that some of these dates may change due to holidays and rotation days that are not yet scheduled. Greeters are assigned to each meeting day by the Programs Team and done in a way to spread out the responsibility. If you are unable to serve as Greeter on the day you are assigned, please find a replacement or switch with somebody. Please let me know if you switch so it can be reflected in the newsletter.

As a reminder, Greeters are responsible for welcoming guests and Rotarians to the meeting, collecting payment for meals, introducing guests, leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Four-way Test, and sharing a reflection. You are welcome to bring a reflection from home, choose one from the book, or share a personal reflection on service, the community, or Rotary. Thank you for the great job everyone has been doing with greeting!

Rotary Blitz at the State Fair
 by Paul Perez

By now you must have August 30 circled on your Rotary Calendar, right?! If not, why not? As mentioned in the Rotary year kick-off video (https://rotary5960.org/Stories/rotary-connects-the-world), the Rotary Blitz is coming to the Minnesota State Fair! Now is the time to make plans to join with Rotarians from Districts 5960, 5950, and 5580.

We need you and yours (families encouraged) to build a blitz with hundreds of our upper Midwest Rotary Family. And what better way to throw a party than at the "Great Minnesota Get-Together!" We are not the only ones that recognize how spectacular this annual must-go event is. Newsweek recently honored it as the sole North American entry [“Americana at it’s best”], in late summer worldwide festivals. Read more here.

Service

If you have service hours, please send to Kim Keilhotz at kimdtm@msn.com.

There will be a sign up sheet on August 27 for volunteering at Celebrating Abilities Septemberfest being held on September 7 from 4-8 p.m.

Youth Exchange Update
It has been a busy and exciting few months for Rotary Youth Exchange. Our inbound student from 2018-2019, Duda, returned to Brazil in July. She had a great experience, and we loved having her!

This month, our 2019-2020 inbound student, KJ, arrives from Japan. Thank you to our host families, starting with Nina and Nick Sargent, and our counselors, Alan Hansen, Gerry Elsbern, and Mark Dripps for making this possible!

Our 2018-2019 outbound student, Bennet, returned from Spain in July. We will hear from Bennet at one of our programs in October.

Our 2019-2020 outbound students, Hannah (Mexico), Lillian (Germany), and Freddie (Mexico) have already left or will be departing later this month.

We also had two outbound YE students in the STEP program. STEP stands for Short-Term Exchange Program. Lilly was in France and Katelyn was in Taiwan.
