River Falls Rotary Club secured a Rotary International District 5960 COVID Disaster Response Grant to help support 114 kids from 75 local families relying on the Backpack Program for food.
The program provides backpacks full of nutritious, kid-friendly groceries to kids (K-12) whose families are experiencing financial hardship in the River Falls School District.
Run through Our Neighbors’ Place in River Falls, the program usually depends on the food supplier Second Harvest Heartland, a Twin Cities food bank. However, with the huge increase in requests for food because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the food bank was out of many items needed for the program.

In response, the River Falls Rotary Club contributed $165 and secured the district grant for a total of $1000 to cover the cost differential of buying the necessary food items from alternative local sources.
