The River Falls Rotary Club invites all River Falls School District middle-school students to participate in its essay contest, centered on citizenship.

Themes should revolve around what it means to be a good citizen in the River Falls Community. How do you apply the Principles of Character Education into your daily lives? Students are encouraged to write in the context of current events occurring during 2020 (e.g. COVID-19 pandemic; recent social justice events; acts of kindness; addressing equity and social awareness; anti-bullying efforts.)

Essays should be 500 words in length.

Submissions can be emailed to rotaryessay2020@gmail.com. With your submission, please include name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and grade you are entering in the fall.

Submission deadline is Wednesday, July 15.

Eligible participants are students entering grades 6-8 in the River Falls School District in the fall of 2020.

“It is essential for us to hear and understand the perspective of youth on key challenges relating our current times,” said Elaine Baumann, River Falls Rotary. “This essay contest provides an opportunity for youth to consider and engage in issues of importance to their role as a citizen in their community and nation.”

  • No participation fee applies. Entries should be 500 words and must be submitted by Wednesday, July 15, 2020.

  • The judging committee will consist of River Falls Rotary members.
  • Prize - $100 Chamber Check – may be used at any River Falls Chamber of Commerce member business.
