Rotary Vision
“Together, we see a world where people unite and take action            to create lasting change —
across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.”
Greetings!
January is certainly ending on an interesting note- below zero temperatures, severe windchill and multiple closings. When I went out to feed the birds, I took a deep breath of the fresh, clean air all the way from the Arctic and thought, "Eskimos, polar bears and me are all breathing the same air". For a brief moment, I felt connected to that part of the world and then I went back inside and was very grateful I live where I do.

GRR 4 Way Test Award *- Last summer Jason, Corenia, Alan and myself met to discuss ways to promote the 4 Way Test. After reviewing programs at Rotary clubs, we focused on establishing a nomination process. The purpose of this recognition is to honor a person from the Olmsted area business / non-profit community or a person from the community at large who exemplify high ethical standards. A nomination form was developed. The winner will be recognized at a meeting as a Paul Harris Fellow and a donation will be made to the Polio Plus in their name. You maybe saying - "Didn't we do that with Dr Vanda Lemmon?" The answer is ,"Yes" but that came from the board. The goal for this year is to open nominations to the members, complete process by March 31, board selects by 4/9, award presented on 4/16 or whenever the person is available. Start looking around for potential nominees. Form will be available 2/13.
Rotary Trivia - answer questions 2/13 - Prizes
Who wrote the 4 Way Test?
When and why was it written?
How was it applied?
When was it adopted by Rotary International?
What is the main characteristic that differentiates Rotary from other service organizations?
February is World Understanding Month
February 23 is Rotary’s 114th Birthday. That day is also called World Understanding and Peace Day. On February 23, 1905, little did Paul Harris and his three friends realize what they were starting when they met in room 711 of the Unity Building in Chicago. We have come a long way, since then, but we still have a long way to go to achieve goodwill, peace, and understanding among all people of the world.

Great service opportunities
Special Opportunities - just for YOU!
1.  Rotary Holiday Classic - Join a highly productive team. Your service will depend on how much time you have to volunteer.   For example: Mike Van Straaten works all year recruiting teams; Donny Rowles works during the event on social media.  How can you help? It is time well spent. Contact Elizabeth, romnrotary@gmail.com
2. 4 Way Test Poster Contest - 3-4 hour volunteer opportunity, one hour intervals. You will work with both ALC and Riverside students.  End of February, first of March. Contact Nina Sargents or Patricia McCleese
Ethics - Can we do more?
If you have not viewed it, now is your chance. The main activity we do not do in Rochester is the community forum.  The question is - should we do a community forum? Rotary Clubs are promoting ethics / the 4 Way Test. In Rochester, our three clubs are participating in vocational talks, ethics day for high schoolers, ethics essay contest with a scholarship, RYLA, GRR introduced 1000 3rd graders to the 4 WT , will have a poster contest, will have vocational panels. The video shares what other clubs are doing. PLEASE VIEW the video. Let's see what else we can do to promote high ethical standards in Rochester and with our youth. And let me know how you would like to be involved.
Isn't that what Rotarians are trying to do by promoting through practice the 4 Way Test.
Hope to see you at the Marriott Courtyard this February.
