Prior Lake, Minn. – On Friday, April 20, 2018, Rotarians from District 5960, which covers south east and east metro Minnesota and western Wisconsin, met at the District Conference of Clubs at Mystic Lake Center for the annual celebration.  This year, there was more excitement in the air. The District introduced an awards program that recognized clubs for various categories and based on the size of the club – Large, Medium, or Small.
The Club was responsible for submitting examples of their efforts against a checklist for up to six categories – Club Service, Community Service, International Service, Public Image, Vocational Service, and Youth Service. The submissions were then judged by Rotarians from Clubs in a different size category to keep the voting objective. The Rotary Club of Greater Rochester was in the Medium size club category.
The Rotary Club of Greater Rochester received awards for Vocational Service and Community Service, and also received the District Governor Citation.  And then, out of all medium clubs in the district, the Rotary Club of Greater Rochester received Club of the Year!  Said Club President Judi Wilson, “Our Rotary Club is humbled by the honor to be recognized among so many wonderful clubs that are ‘doing good in the world’ – a goal of all Rotarians.  Our work to organize a community-wide annual Bike Ride on June 23 raises funds for our youth projects, such as our program to distribute hardcover Scholastic dictionaries to every third grade student in Rochester, which over the past ten years equals almost 16,000 books to help improve literacy in our community.”  Wilson adds, “Together, we can make a difference in our community."
