How can our community build better relationships with people with disabilities? My niece is severely handicapped and has experienced discrimination. So when I was asked if Rotary members would be interested in participating in a community conversation on perceptions of disability services, I thought, of course. I hope you agree and will attend the program. This type of activity also compliments RI's focus on DEI issues. Region 10 Quality Council is a group of community members who have a shared interest in improving the quality of services and supports for people with disabilities.

District 5960 wanted to deliver service in a new way. The intent was to bring Rotarians into the country to experience life in the community firsthand and to create personal relationships with members of the community. A key to our approach is to build relationships before we build stuff. This new process was started in 2007 and has been a great learning experience. Progress is being made although the country is unstable. Today's interesting program will provide an update on what is happening in Nicaragua. Rotary District 5960 Team Lead Rick Heidick is the speaker.
Look forward to seeing you today at noon!

Twin Metals’ David Ulrich will present an introduction to mining techniques that aims to meet the world’s growing need for critical minerals with safety as its number one priority — safety for workers and for the environment. Ulrich will describe the core tenets of the Twin Metals mine—from its unprecedented economic and job growth potential to the ways in which it will utilize best-in-class technology, all while continuing a rich tradition of mining in the region. https://www.facebook.com/TwinMetalsMN I have to admit that when I hear mining I think of possible harm to the environment. This will be a great opportunity to learn more. BRING QUESTIONS. There is a big mining operation planned for northern MN. This should be a wonderful program duo. Last week, the C2C program shared possible activities to think about for the 2021-22 year. This week we are going to learn about Camp Enterprise https://www.campenterprise.org/ We send a student to RYLA. After we learn about Camp Enterprise, perhaps we will want to send another student to it. The next part of the meeting will focus on brainstorming what you would like to do. Do we stay with Rotary Readers, CFR, Dictionary Project, tree planting? Do we add an ethics program partnership with JM, record books for Riverside, maybe do a C2C activity? This will be a fun conversation! What Do You See When You Look Up? When you look up at the night sky, do you ever wonder what is really out there? All of the additional knowledge obtained through Hubble has expanded our awareness of how immense the world is. The Rochester Astronomy Club consists of people truly interested in the skies. Did you know that they created a partnership with Library to check out an Orion 4.5 inch StarBlast telescope? Did you know they have viewings at Oxbow Park, Salem Glem Winery, and a few more places? Bring your questions about the Rochester skies. We will learn a lot from Randy Hemann. We will probably be having a hybrid meeting. Will send the location as soon as we have a place. UNDERSTANDING CULTURE CHANGE / GRAY AREA THINKING
UPDATE - - - ZOOM PRESENTATION - - - UPDATE
We’ve all heard the phrase, “diversity, equity, and inclusion”, but what does it actually mean to make an organization or even our personal lives more diverse, equitable, and inclusive? How can we get beyond grouping and labeling other humans according to the color of their skin, the religion they practice, who they love or identify as, or the country in which they were born? Can we really build a just and inclusive world, especially in this time of such division?
Even more, how can we make our organizations and lives more inclusive of those who are “Other” and different from “us?” Isn’t it time to at least consider a new approach to human inclusivity—where all humans regardless of differences are valued?
As Rotarians in the 2020s, we’ve been called upon to learn more about diversity, equity and inclusion and to embrace ideas about changing our culture to be welcoming to everyone, regardless of the community they represent or how they might be “different” or “diverse.”
Join national speaker, transgender writer, and “human inclusionist” Ellen “Ellie” Krug (a member of the City of Lakes Club) as she talks about organizational culture/culture change and conducts her highly valued human inclusivity training, Gray Area Thinking®. This training will provide an easy-to-understand toolset on how to be more welcoming of anyone who is “Other” in our society.

During the last 4 years, we donated around 1200 socks for the homeless to different agencies. This year, we learned from The Landing that the need is underwear. SO we are doing fun fundraisers to make sure we can purchase from Amazon a few boxes of underwear in bulk. GO TEAM! The hope is to raise enough money to buy 5 boxes and place an order to be delivered in December or January.
