Community Food Response is a A non-profit, volunteer-led organization serving hungry adults and children in the Rochester area since 1993. Volunteer drivers collect food donations from restaurants, cafeterias, businesses and grocery stores. The food is sorted and then distributed, free of charge. In addition to helping people in need, CFR helps reduce the amount of food waste generated by area restaurants and businesses. |

September is Basic Education and Literacy Month. We are very pleased to start the month hearing from the president of Rochester Community Technical College, Dr. Jeffrey Boyd. He will talk about "Racism and Equity 2030". Boyd has a reputation as a leader with a vision for the future of higher education and a champion for the mission of community and technical colleges. A first-generation community college graduate, he has served Tidewater Community College (VA) as the provost, chief operating officer, and lead academic and student affairs administrator of its campus in Norfolk, which serves approximately 12,000 students annually. Under his leadership, the campus developed new degree and academic options for students. He has also served Elgin Community College from 2006 to 2014 in several capacities including associate dean, interim dean, and dean of Business and Career Technologies, and he served the Quad County Urban League as director of education and employment in 2005. He held roles in student services for Olivet Nazarene University from 2003 to 2004, and Waubonsee Community College from 2001 to 2003. Boyd holds an associate degree from San Joaquin Delta College (CA), a bachelor’s degree from Judson University (IL), a master’s from the University of Phoenix (AZ), and a doctorate in Community College Leadership from National Louis University (IL). The Dictionary Project has been a loved program at Greater Rochester Rotary for years. Over 17,000 third graders have benefited from the program. But Bob's faith kept him going and and through it all, his vision of starting a youth camp ranch never waivered. He went on to start Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch in 1976, which today not only serves youth but people with physical or cognitive disabilities and military families. As a motivational speaker for the past 30 years, Bob has left an impact on thousands of people nationwide. One of his presentations, "It's not what happens to you, it's what you do about it" is an example of how he gets his message across. He's a counselor, coach and author. Bob's accomplishments are evidence of that he walks the talk. |

Did you know there is a memorial about the lynchings? I had not heard about the lynchings until they were referenced during Dr Boyd's presentation. And I certainly knew nothing about the memorial. If your knowledge level on this topic is like mine, you will really learn a lot from this presentation, "Bringing the Truth to Light". Kim Green, Broad Member of the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial, will share information about the lynchings and the formation of the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial. Their mission is to foster racial justice and promote healing and reconciliation in our community. https://claytonjacksonmcghie.org/ Speaker: Kim Green was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota. She is the proud mother of 5 children and 8 grandchildren, including 2 sets of twins. As a young wife and mother, she volunteered in the Early Childhood Family Education Initiative through the ISD709 School District. For two years, she assisted children with language skills in the Reading Corps Program and she was a women’s advocate at Community Action Duluth. Throughout her life, Kim has devoted herself to being an advocate for racial justice and for people in poverty. Currently, Kim works for the Lincoln Park Children & Family Collaborative which supports community-driven solutions to reduce health inequities. She was voted onto the Clayton, Jackson, McGhie Memorial Board in 2018 & became a co-chair in 2020. She enjoys gardening and is a cite-coordinator for the Duluth Community Garden Program. As Rotarians, we are grateful for the impact the polio initaitive has had on the world. Billions of children have been saved from this crippling disease. The initiative is an example of how purpose, cooperation, and collaboration can change the world. At this meeting, you will be updated on current work from Charlie Cogan and Dick Huston. This is very exciting work. Charlie is District 5960 PolioPlus Co-Chair and Dick recently traveled to Pakistan to adminster vaccines. It sounds like a great meeting. Charlie Cogan - Experienced Higher Education Professional, Lecturer, Strategy Consultant, Writer, Student, and Volunteer Leader for local and international projects. Former Peace Corps Volunteer and Fulbright Scholar and active Rotarian. Skilled in English and French. Working proficiency in several African languages (Hausa, Gurma, Moba, Ewe) as well as some study of Danish and Russian languages and a basic foundation in Latin. College Admissions, Marketing Strategy, Social Media, Public Health and Disease Prevention, Mentoring, Tutoring, Alumni Relations, International Development, Human Rights, and International Education. Dick Huston - I am a Veterinarian.
