World Polio Day - October 24th

The October edition of The Rotarian magazine features a cover photo of Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, who along with his wife Melinda, have committed $450 million toward the eradication of polio world wide.  Current Rotary International president Ian H.S. Riseley is asking every Rotary club to participate in some way in World Polio Day, which will be marked on Tuesday, October 24th at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation headquarters in Seattle.  Rotary International has helped immunize 2.5 billion children around the world against the polio virus.  Currently, there are only 3 countries that still have reported cases of the disease present.  Rotary's End Polio Now  campaign is part of an effort to raise $50 million per year for the next three years - with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matching donations 2-1.  For more information go to www.endpolio.org
