Weekly Announcements: July 2, 2018
July 2nd Meeting - Lunch Only
On Monday we won't have a formal program, but we will have lunch.  For those who around, please join us for the usual good conversation and food.  We will resume regular lunch programs on July 9th.
2018 Rapids Sampler Moved to October 4th
After receiving feedback that the September 27th Rapids Sampler date conflicted with a Minnesota Vikings game that same evening, we've decided to move the event back one week to Thursday, October 4th.  This should help keep attendance up and the audience focused on various activities planned throughout the evening.  We hope you understand and will support the decision.  Official planning sessions will start in earnest the week of July 9th.
New Rotary Year & Schedule
The new Rotary Year began on July 1st and I look forward to working with the club on the good things that we do as Rotarians.  Starting this year, we will introduce a new initiative to switch up our regular routine and replace a meeting with a social function on those months with a 5th Monday.  In 2018, this occurs on July 30th and October 29th; and in 2019 on April 29th.  As we get closer to these dates, we'll have additional details on location and time.  The goal is to provide members with flexibility in attending meetings, as well as invite guests to learn more about what we do in Rotary.
In recognition of the new Rotary theme, Be The Inspiration, we'll also start an effort to recognize individual Rotarian's for their service to the club, community or elsewhere.  More importantly, this will be a way to highlight what they do to inspire others.  So don't be surprised if you get called out in the near future for something inspirational!
Jeff McGonigal Retiring from Rotary
As some of are aware, Jeff McGonigal, retired at the end of June as Assistant Superintendent for the Anoka-Hennepin School District.  He is also retiring from Rotary, where he has been a member for 10 years.  We wish Jeff well on the next phase and thank him for his involvement in Coon Rapids Rotary.
In Case You Missed It
On Saturday, an article appeared in the Inspired section (interesting coincidence) of the Star Tribune titled “Rotary helps transform St. Cloud”.   Staff writer Kelly Smith wrote about the impact of the St. Cloud Rotary Club in helping to re-shape the community through a variety of projects and programs.  It’s a wonderful reminder of what Rotary does in building a better world.  Congratulations to St. Cloud Rotary – an inspiration indeed!  Here’s a link to the story: http://strib.mn/2ICJdNU
2018 marks the 242nd anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and our nation's founding.  Have a wonderful and safe Independence Day...#242!
