On May 7, 2021, Yellow Brick House will be hosting its annual Gala virtually, and registration is free. Since the start of COVID-19, fundraising has been more important than ever - there has been a 30% increase in domestic violence during the pandemic.

An Important Milestone This 24 July marks one year since Nigeria’s last case of wild poliovirus. That’s the longest period the country has gone without a case of the disease. This achievement has particular significance, because Nigeria is one of only three countries in the world in which polio is still endemic. When the disease is eradicated in Nigeria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, the world will be free of polio. A few weeks later, 11 August will mark one year since the last case of polio in Africa: a case in Somalia that came at the end of an outbreak in the Horn of Africa. Africa’s countries have overcome significant challenges — including lack of security and difficulty reaching children in remote places — to protect their children from polio. Rotary has played an important role in reaching these milestones. Rotarians have dedicated their time and their personal resources to keep children safe from this disease by immunizing them, donating money, raising funds, and urging governments to support the cause. Rotary has donated $688.5 million to fight polio throughout Africa, including more than $200 million designated for Nigeria. While this is notable progress, we haven’t finished the job yet. “We’ll celebrate this milestone, but it doesn’t mean that we’ll stop raising money or spreading the word about polio eradication,” Rotary Foundation Trustee John F. Germ told Rotary leaders at the International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA. “We can’t stop until our entire world is certified as polio-free.” 

The fundraising milestone was reached in response to $355 million in challenge grants awarded to The Rotary Foundation by the Gates Foundation. All funds have been earmarked to support polio immunization activities in affected countries where the vaccine-preventable disease continues to paralyze children. 

“In recognition of Rotary’s great work, and to inspire Rotarians in the future, the [Gates] foundation is committing an additional $50 million to extend our partnership,” said Jeff Raikes, chief executive officer of the Gates Foundation. “Rotary started the global fight against polio, and continues to set the tone for private fundraising, grassroots engagement, and maintaining polio at the top of the agenda with key policymakers.” Raikes also addressed Rotary leaders at the International Assembly. 

2015 Woodbridge Rotary Ribfest a Resounding Success!

The Rotary Club of Woodbridge sponsors an EarlyAct Club at Daystrom School in North York.  The Club consists of a keen group of Grade 3's who are learning about volunteering, fundraising, and helping the community.   Recently, they have had a number of events to raise money for the fight against polio.  They had a dime drive, they sold popcorn, and they had a purple pinkie day.  A purple pinkie drive represents how polio immunizations on a large scale are handled in countries such as Pakistan and Nigeria.  To ensure that all kids get their vaccines, the ones who have received theirs have their pinkie fingers dipped in purple dye.   The kids at the school asked for $1 donations, and they donors could paint their fingers or finger nails purple!

The events were a lot of fun, and they have raised over $450 to fight polio!!!

This year, our annual frog race will be on SUNDAY, MAY 31st.  We will once again be partnering with the Toronto Region Conservation Authority and the Historic Wallace House.

We will have educational displays, a BBQ, and of course our frog race!   Come out and watch us put 600 plastic frogs in river at the Woodbridge Avenue bridge!  Over the next month, we will be selling frog tickets, to raise money for the Living City Foundation.  Funds will go towards educational and interpretive displays along the Humber River.

Mark your calendars for the 2015 Ribfest!  We are hard at work planning for this year's event.  This year, the Ribfest will be AUGUST 7-8-9, and is located at the Woodbridge Fairgrounds.

Thank you all our volunteers for another successful pancake supper! We had our biggest crowd ever, serving dinner to 200 people.  In partnership with Christ Church Anglican, we raised over $3,200 for Hospice Vaughan!

2:30 - 3:00 Gather at the Woodbridge Avenue  bridge to witness the beginning of the Frog Race.
Watch as over 1,000 frogs go over the railing to start the race! Proceeds go to Track 3, a charity that teaches kids with disabilities to ski and snowboard.  Tickets are $5 each, and are available from Rotary Club members.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the NIght of 1000 Pancakes!  It was a great evening, with great food and fellowship.
The Interact Club of Father Bressani High School were our servers this year, and they did a terrific job!

 This event, which is a partnership between the Rotary Club of Woodbridge and Christ Church Anglican Church, has raised over $15,000 for various charities.  This year, our project of choice was Project Dream Catcher. Funds raised have gone to Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation in Ontario, located 600 km north of Thunder Bay on Big Trout Lake. This community is very isolated, and suffers from many of the difficulties as Attiwapiskat. The money will provide toys, clothing and healthy foods for the community.
We are very pleased to announce that over $3,400 has been raised so far!!

 The Rotary Club of Woodbridge welcomes the Interact Club of Father Bressani Catholic High School!   

Interact is a service club for high school youth, which meets every two weeks. The Rotary Club of Woodbridge is proud to be their sponsoring club.

On Tuesday, January 16, 2012  the Interact Club of Father Bressani was officially chartered. However; this group of enthusiastic students have already been hard at work, helping out at the CP Holiday Train and  the Wallace House Victorian Christmas. The club also raised $600 for Haiti through selling buttons.

 Our mainstage will have non-stop entertainment this year, so come out and enjoy the lineup!

New this year!!

This year the CPR Holiday Train came through Vaughan during the day. As a result, there were no special activities.  The Rotary Club of Woodbridge looks forward to being back in 2014 to serve hot cider!
