Lunch Meeting - April 9

Kristin Crowe from Belleville Rotary will be speaking to us about Camp Merrywood.

Easter Seals Camp Merrywood is located in the Smith Falls and Perth area.  The camp was built in 1948 and began as a program for children with polio.  The facilities and programs have evolved over the years, now hosting summer camp for children with disabilities.  You can learn a bit more about the Camp itself here http://www.eastersealscamps.org/about/camp-merrywood   It's truly quite an amazing place! 

The Belleville Club has been involved with the Camp for over 30 years.  They take a group of volunteers every Spring, the weekend prior to Mother's Day weekend, and complete various projects to help prepare the property for the camping season.  They split and stack wood for camp fires, rake leaves and clean out gardens, paint ~ sometimes cabins, sometimes things like picnic tables and they also do some special construction type projects as required such as replace windows in cabins, flooring, electrical and plumbing ~ these projects are assigned to our skilled trades.

The Belleville Rotary Club  budgets approximately $10k each year to help supply materials for special projects.
