RTE GEM Wine & Auction Fundraiser – Thursday November 14: 

 
Stephen and David CS challenged every member of the club to do two things this week for the club’s main fundraiser for the year.  First, unless you are a sponsor, purchase at least one ticket – online at this website. Second, work to provide one item for the auctions or raffle.  Contact for more information:  Stephen at (416) 930-8138.
 
 

President’s Announcements: 

 
President Nilam noted:
 
  • Planning – Member Survey.  Please complete if you have not done so yet.  We have a 60% response rate so far – we need 80%.
  • September 8 – Rotary Foundation Walk.  Grateful thanks to Chad and the team of 8 who represented the club.
  • October 25-27 – 7070 District Convention, Muskoka.  I am registered – please join me.
  • October 31 – RTE’s Habitat for Humanity build day at Pinery Trail, Scarborough.  More volunteers please.  Contact:  Norma or David CS

 

Guest Speaker:  Past President, Joe Clarke

 
Stephen introduced Past President Joe Clarke who gave an excellent and highly-informed presentation on his recent tour of battlefields in Italy where some 5,500 Canadians gave their lives during the liberation of Italy in World War II, fighting as part of the 8Th Army.  This was from Sicily to near Bologna.  He was there as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations, and in part because an uncle of his fought in Sicily.

Guest Speaker: Denis Whitter, Executive Director of New Beginnings Support Program

 
Denise Whitter, Executive Director of New Beginnings Support Program, founded the organization in 2003.  She has over 15 years of experience in the social service industry and has worked with numerous charitable and non-for-profit organizations, including Youthlink Inner City, Covenant House and the Childhood Cancer Foudation.  Using her expertise, Denise assists women committed to transforming their lives and starting the process out of the cycle of poverty.  Her mission is to work with as many organizations and companies willing to be part of the vision to reduce poverty in the GTA.
