The Smile Trophy was given to the Rotary Club of Toronto Eglinton by the Rotary Club of Kerava Finland to mark our 25th year as a Rotary Club. The Kerava Rotary Club was established the same year as our club.

In a letter from the Kerava Club, President Jorma Helasvua, explained that Reino Harsti, an artist and member of their club, designed the statue on the trophy. He went on to explain that the first Smile Trophy was presented to their club in 1963. The second Smile Trophy was sent to our club to mark the 25th anniversary of our club. The small statue on the trophy symbolizes the flame, which lights and purifies. The four quadrangles on the front, symbolize the Four Way Test and the four different avenues of service.

The trophy is presented each year to the member of our club who has served best according to the principles of Rotary and has given the most joy to our members…It is awarded in June of each year. The winner each year is responsible for forming a committee of three previous winners to recommend to the board the winner of the Smile trophy and make a presentation at a lunch meeting.
