Mike reflected that it’s been one year since his wife died, and how grateful he is for everyone’s support and friendship. He read a Woodsworth poem.

Guest Speakers – Rae Cowan and Sandy McKellar – former RTE Members who have recently returned.

Sandy was a member of RTE 30 years ago and President of RTE in 1994-95. Sandy discussed how he attended a funeral and met a friend there who introduced him the Rotary luncheons and he then became a convert to rotary. He was very involved in the original development of the Trails Program. He worked with Chris K and Donna Van Elstein of Camp Enterprise. In 1993 he worked with Dr. McClure to help fundraise for Trails and the raised $500,000. He discussed several trips taken to Europe with other Rotarians, and a program for hosting sponsored students from Germany, France, Australia. He also organized a group exchange with Mexico.  
 
Sandy is an Engineer by education, but also held several other positions. Currently he started up a hand nail company that is still going with 20 outlets around the world.
 
Rae Cowan – Rae became a RTE Member in the early 90’s, he was President in 2003, and received the Paul Harris Fellow that same year. Rae was a Buyer with Canadian Tire Corporation and retired in 1992 as Senior VP – Dealer Operations. He saw CTC grow from 140 stores to 440 dealer stores across Canada. He then held a second career at Centennial College for 12 years teaching self employment in the Entrepreneurial Program. He retired from that in 1991.
 
Rae has 2 Daughters and 4 grandchildren.

Lois reported in upcoming events reminding us of the next Trivia Game Friday May 28th – Stephen Bianco is the Trivia Master for the evening,
Saturday May 29th is still the scheduled date for the Great Waterways Clean Up.
June 9th will be a Club Assembly with Reports from all Committees.

Community Service Committee

 
Dawn Smith reported that CSC has delivered a Starter Kit to Fred Victor at the end of April. Also they continue with the weekly Sandwich Sisters donation every Monday.
As voted on at the last meeting we have sent cheques of $2,500. Each to the Churches on the Hill Food Bank and the Daily Bread Food Bank. We received a lovely letter from COTH-FB we will post the letter on our Clubrunner/Website.
