Past President Barb Bocking, and Joe Clarke, President 2018-2019

Barb is very proud to have served as President during the past year, and thanked members for their incredible support. As a result of our hard work, RTE met or exceeded its annual goals. Barb provided members with a written outline of the incredible 22 projects we achieved in the last Rotary year. Some of these projects include:
  • Youth Committee –Ryerson Midwifery
  • John Polanyi Collegiate Institute
  • Rotary Fundraising Bingo
  • Rotary Toast to Women’s Brain Health fundraiser
  • Rotary Foundation AIDS walk
  • International – ROOTA –Rising out of the ashes
  • Polio Awareness Day campaign
  • Out of the Cold
  • PACT
  • Philpott Tennis
  • STEM Conference
  • New by-laws and constitution, and more
RTE members worked hundreds of volunteer hours, and made cash contributions of more than $72,000. This is an amazing figure, especially for a club our size.

Joe thanked Barb for her incredible contributions to RTE over the past year.

Joe reminded members of our club vision from 2015. This vision states:

By 2020, Toronto Eglinton Rotary will have grown significantly larger and be diverse, modern and vibrant because of its record of leaderships and outstanding services in its immediate community and internationally.

The past year was a great step forward in achieving this vision. While our total membership has not changed significantly, we have attracted younger members who have brought a renewed energy. When Joe speaks to other clubs about their challenges, it’s clear that RTE is doing well and hitting well above size. Some noteworthy RTE accomplishments that are helping us achieve our vision include:
  • The POD system which has resulted in greater member participation at meetings
  • A new website and social media efforts to improved public awareness and new member interest
  • Our Rotary After Hours (RAH) meeting for greater fellowship
  • Increased participation in community and international projects
Joe’s vision for the coming year includes:
  • Focus on established goals, rather than take on more new projects. Our club already has an ambitious number of projects and we are near our limit.
  • We will reach out to other clubs to maximize our impact on international projects.
  • We will continue to focus on increasing active member participation, especially from older members.
  • We will continue to expand our efforts to create RTE awareness and new member interest through Facebook, and other digital strategies.
  • We will increase our public visibility through high profile events and speakers.
  • We will focus on connecting and working with the local business community through the Yonge/St Clair BIA.
  • We will increase our fellowship by focusing on fun activities and meetings.
David CS thanked Joe and we look forward to a great year.

Thank you Barb!
