Successful candidates must be in good academic standing, in financial need, have demonstrated commitment to their community through their work in the community, and planning to return to their community following graduation. The recipients will be invited to attend a Rotary lunch and share information about their work in their community.

Denise McLeod introduced herself in aboriginal language, before sharing her interest in midwifery as a career. Access to healthcare is difficult in many remote communities, so many indigenous students will return to their communities to provide needed midwife services.

Claudia Hughes described the program. Midwifery is a self-regulating profession in Ontario. Midwives provide care for childbearing women and other pregnant people and their newborn babies from early pregnancy to six weeks postpartum. Midwifery at Ryerson is a dynamic and innovative program with faculty engaged in active clinical practice, leading edge research, and professional leadership.

The Midwifery Education Program at Ryerson offers a 4 year Full-Time and a 5 year Part-Time BHSc Midwifery degree program in addition to a 6 semester Post-Baccalaureate Program for Health Professionals with significant maternity care experience.

Jackie acknowledged the importance of the McClure fund.
