Speaker: Classification Speech – Deb Lewis

Tim V introduced the speaker, Deb Lewis, who joined our club in recent months. Tim told members that he was delighted to be introducing Deb, who was fast off the mark, getting involved in numerous club activities, including the Fundraising Committee and the Youth Committee.

Deb gave the members an overview of her, family, education and professional life. Growing up in Ajax and later in Don Mills, she had role models in the family who were active in volunteer activities, including the Rotary Club. As a result, she became involved in the Junior Chambers. Her father’s Rotary Club started the Rotaract Club in the Don Valley area and Deb was active in organizing the charter dinner for the club, continuing to be active in it for about 6 years.

Her childhood included a lot of exposure to outdoor activities, driving trips. In later years, she picked up sailing (including competitive sailing), skiing and golf.

Deb graduated from the University of Guelph with a degree in Consumer Studies, followed by a post-graduate diploma from the George Brown College in Sport and Event Marketing. Upon graduation, she obtained an internship at Sporting Life, where she got great in experience in designing and delivering various events and programs. Deb went on work in various sporting and non-profit event management activities, including tennis, managing mascots and working with the Sunnybrook Foundation. At the Toronto Board of Trade, she honed her skills in organizing events of varied themes – speaker series, entrepreneurial, networking and community/political issues.

About eleven years ago, she started her own firm – City Events, an event management and marketing firm. She has worked with clients in diverse sectors, ranging from the arts industry to the health and scientific sector.
Her presentation was followed by a question and answer session, with the common theme among members encouraging Deb to lend her marketing expertise to their projects.

Mike H thanked Deb, and described her as an enthusiastic, professional, a builder and an explorer.
