Our thanks go to Dennis for the news, James N for the invocation, pledge and 4way test, and Dana for leading us in song. Administrator Mike Hawley from Jefferson HS introduced us to Joe Link. Joe is being recognized by our club as an outstanding educatior. Joe has been at Jefferson for 21 years and is involved with the theater program. Bruce introduced our speaker Cecilia Rokusek, Executive Director of the National Czech and Slovak Museum. As an aside, Cecilia first advised Larry regarding the correct pronunciation of his last name. (This is something that Kim has been trying to tell Larry for years.) However, Larry has 71 years of pronouncing it wrong to overcome so don't expect any changes soon. Cecilia noted that a number of our members have Czech names. She invited us to the museum to visit her and promised a kolache to anyone who did! Cecilia gave us a nice overview of the museum's history, mission, and programming. It was started in 1974. It has had to overcome many challenges, including the 2008 flood and the 2020 derecho and of course the ongoing Covid pandemic. Cecilia also gave us a short Czech language course. So I say to you today dobry den (good day) and ahoj (meaning both hi and goodbye). |
