The weatherman says it will be beautiful Wednesday and the fall colors will be vivid.  After not seeing everyone for so long, the Board decided to try an outdoor event before Old Man Winter appears.  

Many thanks to Dennis for the news and Jane for her excellent invocation, as well as pledge and 4-way test.   Matt lead us in song with "Shine on Harvest Moon."  Happy Birthday was sung to our October Rotarians (Kim, Janette, TJ, Jane, Steve, Bernard, Larry, and Rob).

 

The Cedar Lake Metro Project scheduled for October 10 was again mentioned.  Larry thanked those Rotarians from our Club registered for the event.

 

Larry mentioned that the Board would like to hold an outdoor social event within the next couple of weeks.  Jane mentioned the Nature Center has a patio with firepit that we can use.   She will check on availability and get dates to Larry.

 

Liz is working on arranging a date in November when we can ring bells at the Wilson Ave HyVee.

 

Mike Wiethorn was our speaker.  Mike is a former President of Rotary West.   He is an Iowa boy with a variety of interesting experiences from radio to IT.   He has done work for a variety of entities, such as the Washington Redskins, the music group Earth, Wind and Fire, local radio, Kirkwood College, and most recently Rockwell,.   Like many others in town he was recently released by Rockwell and is searching for a new position.  Matt mentioned he has a position open at his bank if interested.   We wish Mike well in his job search, especially since he wants to stay in the area and remain with our Club.  Thanks Mike for your presentation.

It was beautiful on Saturday morning when roughly 30 Rotarians from various Metro Rotary Clubs gathered at Cedar Lake.  We accomplished much in two hours, including trimming, collecting garbage, spreading mulch around trees, raking leaves, gathering branches, and doing some sand and dirt work.  Thank you Rotary West members Bruce, Charles, Lijun, Jamie, Nick, and Larry for being there.  Lijun and Nick also brought along their spouses so thank you also David and Desiree.  We gathered afterwards outdoors at the Sag Wagon.  Rotary truly is about service and fellowship.

 

 

The World Polio Day 2020 Global Update theme is “A win against polio is a win for global health.” The program will provide a status update on Rotary and our partners’ polio eradication efforts, and will also focus on how investment in polio eradication is critical for other global health initiatives, such as the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

While we are not planning a special event.  Please consider a donation to the Rotary Foundation earmarked for the fight against polio.  We are getting so close to eradicating polio!
