Rob Davis, City Flood Project Manager, discussed the various flood mitigation projects undertaken to prevent another event like that taking place in 2008. A number of flood wall projects have been completed with more to come. A pumping station has been completed to look like the Czech school building. Yet to come projects include another pumping station, covers at the river to prevent water from getting into the sewer system, sliding gates, and a restroom project at McGrath Theater site. They are trying to make projects pleasing to the eye as well as functional. The Big Drop was discussed. Members are encouraged to make personal contact with people and then send them the flyer and link so they can act. Information has been provided to all clubs in Cedar Rapids as well as in our District. The Sunrise Club, our winner last year of the big prize, is making an effort to pool funds again. Information has appeared in the Downtown Newsletter and also in the Spirit Lake Newsletter so our efforts are being noticed. There are now sufficient volunteers to help on August 15. Details about the event organizing the balls for the drop will be announced in the future. August Social event will be held on Thursday August 6 behind the Cherry Building at 5. We will be auditing the ping pong balls to ensure all numbers are covered for the drop. You should bring your own lawn chair and refreshment, along with a mask. We will practice social distancing.
