Many thanks to Matt for doing Cashier and invocation, pledge, and 4way test duties, to Mike for the news, and to Charles for leading us in the Navy song (Anchors Away). Barb Randall was visiting and club members expressed their condolences to her for the loss of her brother. Larry expressed his thanks to Dennis for his tech support in making the hybrid meeting possible. Several members joined us by zoom including our speaker. Tom announced we have raised $8500 in sponsorships to date. We are still looking for a location to hold the drop. Larry will explore doing it at the Czech Museum. Most members seemed to be okay with doing ticket sales online although some were interested in actual tickets. Tom will work that out. We are in need of a committee to help Tom and Janette. Please let Tom know if you are willing to help. Dave announced that Allie Hayes and Emily Clemen are our RYLA students. We have one other slot available which will probably come from those applying to the Downtown Club. YRYLA applicants are still being received. Our own Jerry S was our program. He told us something about himself that none of us knew. He answered the call to be a Peace Corps volunteer in the early days of the program. He was assigned to a remote area of Ethiopia as a teacher. He described the sights, sounds, and smells of his experience as a Peace Corps volunteer. He actually met Emperor Haile Selassie as well as the President of the United States. The importance of his work was reinforced when one of his former students visited him in the U.S. and advised him how none of his successes would have been possible without the education he received. "Well done good and faithful servant." We look forward to your return to our club from Maine. John Z told Jerry we will be presenting in his honor to Van Buren the book "Oh the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss. Yes, John checked. It is not on the list of banned Dr. Seuss books. |
