Our annual day to ring bells for the Salvation Army was held on November 21 at the HyVee on Wilson Avenue.  Ringing started at noon and went until 8 pm.  Time slots were for one hour and were filled by the following folks:  Matt T, Larry and Kim K, Jane S, Brian W, Tom and Amy V and a little unicorn, Nick K, and Liz D..  Many thanks to all of you and especially to Liz Durham who organized the event and filled two time slots herself, as well as providing the ringers with delicious personalized cookies and some wonderful candy.  You can check out our website for pictures beyond the one below.   I will let you guess who are behind those masks.

 

You can still go to the Salvation Army website to signup for a different time, date and location and state you are part of CR West Rotary to give us credit.

Liz discussed the bell ringing and birthday boy Tom volunteered to fill the last vacant time slot.

 

Our prayers continue for Dave and Betsy Ks' daughter Barb.   She remains on the mend from surgery.

 

Lijun introduced our  speaker Dr. Ruth Zimmerling who spoke to us about "Germany."   Thanks to David C we were able to see part of her PowerPoint which was later sent to all members by email.  Ruth is a Professor at the University in Mainz, Germany.  It was interesting to hear and see the information she provided.  Mainz was founded by the Romans in 12 BCE.  Mainz was the home of Johannes Guttenberg who invented printing with movable letters in the West around 1450.  Napoleon's wife also resided there while Napoleon was busy in Eastern Europe.  The University has on its faculty the team of Dr Ozlem Tureci and Dr Ugur Sahin who are involved with the Pfizer vaccine against COVID.
