Good afternoon, Rotarians! President Nick here, trying out some new functionality offered by ClubRunner. If you haven't yet explored ClubRunner, come check it out! There is a lot of great functionality offered there, including member profiles and a directory, links to events with the club, and sometimes you can even find things you hadn't previously noticed--as I can confirm from personal experience.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to join due this week to work demands, but don't worry, you will be in the capable hands of President-Elect Chuck Kudej!
This week: Stories from the Bench with Judge Kilburg
This week, we'll be hearing from member Judge Paul Kilburg about his time on the bench. Be sure to ask for the really good stories, like the one from this case, which involves a bitter custody dispute, attorneys with sizable opinions of themselves, and enough legal skullduggery to inspire an entire stand-up set of lawyer jokes. Special thanks to the Judge for agreeing to fill in on short notice after our original speaker fell ill early this week - we'll hear from her sometime soon!

Next week, we'll be doing our monthly service project at the main branch of the Cedar Rapids Public Library, helping them sort books and prepare for their big book sale! Plan to meet at the book return inside the Fifth Avenue entrance at noon on Wednesday, March 27, and remember to sign up here!
Last week: Matthew Doty on Veterans in the Workplace
Last week, we were fortunate to hear from Matthew Doty, Founder and CEO of Privilege to Lead, about Veterans in the Workplace. Matt served twenty years in the Iowa National Guard, and had great insights on how we can help our organizations be great places for those who've served our country.
There will be a meeting immediately after tomorrow's regular meeting to help plan for the Big Drop. Please plan to stay and help out, whether by lending your thoughts or getting directly involved.
If you're a new member, the Big Drop is our main annual fundraising effort, taking place at the Farmer's Market on a Saturday morning in the summer. We sell numbers that match to ping pong balls, then drop the balls - and the winner takes home a big cash prize!
But to make this great event happen, we need help planning. Breaking this work into smaller pieces makes it much, much easier for everyone involved. Come be a part of planning something exciting, both the event itself and the impact it has on the community!
Rotary District 5970 Conference June 7-8 in Bancroft
Plan to attend the District Conference in Bancroft, Iowa on June 7 and 8. This is a great chance to exchange ideas, find inspiration, and make connections with other Rotarians who want to make a difference in their communities. The speakers at last year's conference were excellent, and I found myself constantly being drawn into fascinating conversations with people from all across the district, including this year's District Governor, Carole Bernhard. I'm planning to attend again this year, and you should, too!
