We have now raised an additional $300 to provide a second box of coats to Van Buren.   Thank you to everyone who made this possible.  

Our annual day to ring bells for the Salvation Army will be held on November 21 at the HyVee on Wilson Avenue.  Ringing starts at noon and goes until 8 pm.  Time slots are for one hour.  Contact Liz Durham at tedurham1010@yahoo.com  or 319-310-1300 if you are interested in ringing and she can let you know what time slots remain open.  She will take care of signing you up.  If you cannot ring on that day, you can still go to the Salvation Army website to signup for a different time, date and location.  Contact Liz on how to signup direct.  You will need to use her user name and password.

Briefly, the Board discussed a number of topics.  It was agreed we should push for Foundation giving through the District matching points program that will start in December.  We now have enough money to get a second box of coats for Van Buren.  Discussion was held concerning the remaining Big Drop money.  We will use part of the money for HACAP's Thanksgiving and Christmas drives and Van Buren's Christmas gifts program.  Rotaract at Kirkwood is on hold until next year due to COVID.  Mary Schneekloth will remain the Kirkwood contact.  The Board wants to continue the Kirkwood scholarship program in a yet to be determined amount.  Mary S will continue to work on the program.  Interact at Washington High school will probably start again in January but the program format will be changing because of COVID.  Larry Simons remains the Washington faculty member but now has a couple of other faculty members with Rotary connections to potentially assist him.  The Board recognizes that COVID remains a problem so zoom meetings will probably continue into next year.  Larry will contact the museum since our lease is up at the end of the year.  We will continue to look for opportunities to have in person events as well as exploring hybrid events.

Birthday boy Mike did the news, Janette did the invocation, and Charles led us in song.   Thanks to each of you.

 

November birthdays were acknowledged.  Celebrating are Rhonda, Mike, Tom, Jeff, Nick, and Brian.

 

TJ talked about November being Foundation month.  Starting in December there will be a push by the District to increase Paul Harris Fellows through a point match program.  Details will be covered by TJ in December.

Lijun introduced her husband David as our program.  David works for Dexter Laundry which does business in China selling laundromat equipment which is a new concept in China.  David discussed doing business in China, as well as the years he lived in China.  He met Lijun many years ago when living in Taiwan.  Thanks David for a very interesting program!
